Named for former First Lady Betty Ford, who lived in Vail with her husband, President Gerald R. Ford, for many years, the Gardens focus solely on plants that thrive in harsh alpine environments around the world.
At 8, feet, it’s North America’s highest botanical garden. The collection of more than 3, species represents both familiar and exotic ecosystems from such places as South Africa, the western European Alps, the Caucasus Mountains, central Asia, and the Himalayas. The Betty Ford Alpine Gardens are one of the world's highest botanical gardens, located at S Frontage Road E, Vail, Colorado, United States, at an 8, feet (2,&#;m) altitude in the Rocky Mountains. The Gardens mission is "to protect the alpine environment through education, conservation and living plant collections". They offer programming such as rotating exhibits, garden tours, workshops, expert speakers, plant sale, yoga and more.
